Partnering with Orion Companies for Nutrient Management Solutions
At SOLitude, we strive to provide a variety of eco-conscious solutions to help manage water quality problems at the source. That’s why we are proud to partner with The Orion Companies to offer Phoslock products to our clients.
The Orion Companies is the exclusive distributor of Phoslock in the United States. Phoslock has been a tool in the lake management toolbox for many years. This solution helps reduce phosphorus pollution in lakes and ponds, thus improving overall water quality.
SOLitude’s team of aquatic experts has utilized Phoslock for many years and is trained and certified in proper application techniques.

How does Phoslock work to improve water quality?
Developed in the 1990s, Phoslock is a water treatment product that permanently binds excess phosphorus in the water column and enables it to settle in an environmentally benign state.
Phoslock is a modified clay that uses Lanthanum to remove phosphate from water. Lanthanum binds with phosphate at a 1:1 ratio and keeps this ability over time. When Lanthanum attaches to phosphate, it creates rhabdophane, a mineral that does not dissolve in water and does not affect living things. This process helps reduce phosphate in water effectively, thus reducing the available nutrients for algae and weeds to thrive on.

Is Phoslock safe?
Phoslock is an environmentally friendly solution that can be a fit for many smaller lakes and stormwater ponds. Evidence from The Orion Company shows that Phoslock does not pose any risk to freshwater biota or have any human health-related risks.
It has been extensively tested by regulators and scientific institutions worldwide and is produced under a Quality Management System. It is also accredited by the Water Quality Association as meeting the NSF/ANSI/CAN 60 standard for chemicals being applied to drinking water.
