Colleagues Volunteer 480 Hours on National Day of Community Service
SOLitude Lake Management is pleased to share a recap of the company’s volunteering initiatives during the 2021 National Volunteering Week, which coincided with Earth Day Thursday, April 22.
During this week of volunteering and community service, SOLitude’s colleagues were empowered to take time off during regular business hours to support a cause or organization they are passionate about.
Across SOLitude’s 35+ nationwide offices, participants volunteered 480 total hours through trash pick-ups at nature preserves, parks, beaches, etc., visiting food pantries and animal sanctuaries, restoring shorelines, writing cards and making bracelets for cancer patients, donating blood, assisting with virtual elementary science fairs, planting wildflower plugs, and more.
Here are a few highlights:
Colleagues from our Florida office had a blast volunteering at Tomorrow’s Rainbow, a horse farm that provides animal therapy for children who have lost a loved one. SOLitude colleagues put together prep boxes for the therapy sessions and cleaned out stalls.
Colleagues from our Delaware office taught members of a local community association how to install 2,000 native wildflower plugs. The goal was to create an attractive buffer that filters pollutants, stabilizes the shoreline, and deters nuisance geese.
Colleagues from our Newport News and Virginia Beach offices began early in the day to restore a stable, protected shoreline with hundreds of pounds of oyster shells, which will help prevent erosion while integrating naturally into the ecosystem.
Our wetlands crew helped restore the foundation of protected animal enclosures at a sanctuary in Florida. They also helped organize over 5,000 pounds of dry food, canned goods, and freezer items.
So far, colleagues have collectively volunteered more than 1,500 hours in 2021. Since the inception of The SOLution program in 2012, SOLitude’s colleagues, industry partners, and their families have helped generate more than 18,973 volunteer hours and donate $518,855 to charitable organizations and causes.
